Building an equitable society, artificial intelligence challenge: UNAM

The development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the different fields of scientific development needs to seek the general well-being of humanity and not deepen differences and inequities between people, cultures and countries, with the aim of establishing human and universal principles and values.

For this, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) recommended the respect, protection and promotion of individual guarantees, fundamental freedoms and human dignity; prosperity of the environment and ecosystems; ensure diversity and inclusion; as well as living in peaceful, just and interconnected societies.

In the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, developed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco); The highest house of studies established the use of this principle as an instrument to make technological and scientific advantages a reality for the benefit of a “risk-free” society.

During the presentation, UNESCO's Director General of Social and Human Sciences, Gabriela Ramos, explained that the document is a historic and ambitious milestone that allows "rethinking the way we govern these technologies, and how they can contribute to improve the well-being of the population and reduce risks”.
