Compared to its folding Mate X family, with a tablet-like format that opens horizontally, P50 Pocket adopts a clamshell-type hinge that opens vertically and allows it to be more compact, so similar to traditional flip phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr.

The new terminal maintains the aesthetics of the P50 family, with two rings on the back: the upper one for the camera and the lower one for the complementary screen. The terminal allows you to use the rear camera to capture selfies, thanks to the use of the external screen.

Its design allows for a weight of 190 grams and 15.2 millimeters thick when folded, less than Samsung's flexible Galaxy Z Flip3 model, and without a gap around the hinge.

P50 Pocket will hit the market with a standard finish, in white with a 3D effect, reflections and diamond pattern, and another 'premium', in gold with a geometric pattern on the back.

NEW STRONGER HINGE

P50 Pocket makes use of a new hinge system to house its folding screen. Faced with the Falcon Wing system of Mate X and Xs or the multidimensional one of Mate X2, Huawei has used a new generation multidimensional hinge in P50 Pocket that uses ten different metal materials.

The new hinge is all about durability, with 62 percent greater impact resistance, while resistance to splitting has increased by 33 percent over previous models.

TRIPLE REAR CAMERA

P50 Pocket is a new folding terminal that "inherits a lot from the P50 series" at the camera level, according to Pan Chaouye, solutions representative. of Huawei's camera at a global level, in a meeting with the international press.

This model maintains XD Optics imaging technology, also present in Huawei's P50 family of new flagship smartphones, but introduces XD Ultra Spectrum computing matrix technology.

Among the camera features added by the new P50 Pocket is an ultra-wide-angle mode, while other highlights are selfies or details captured by macro in night mode.

The rear camera opts for a triple configuration in which the main sensor is 40MP. To this must be added a 13MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 32MP telephoto lens, dedicated to ultra-spectral photography for macro details in night mode.

6.9-INCH OLED SCREEN

The interior folding screen measures 6.9 inches and is made of OLED material. It also stands out for providing a refresh rate of 120 Hz, as well as a 300 Hz touch sampler.

The internal panel of P50 Pocket features a 21:9 aspect ratio, identical to that of widescreen cinema, and also has support for HDR10+ content and to display 1.07 billion colors.

The secondary screen allows access to functions such as third-party widgets, as well as reading notifications without having to open the terminal. Huawei's mapping app, Petal Maps, can give directions from this rear panel.

Other smart features include a mode that detects if the user is sunbathing without sun protection through spectral analysis and warns them to protect themselves.

To protect security, Huawei has provided the device with an additional security mode that prevents applications from accessing data in the background when the terminal is closed.

The specifications of the new P50 Pocket are completed with connectivity through support for WiFi 6, dual SIM card, and a battery with a 4,000 mAh capacity and 40W fast charging function.

The device uses the EMUI 12 customization layer, based on Harmony OS 2, with new animations and new versions of Huawei's native apps and connectivity with other products in the brand's ecosystem.

Huawei will put its new folding 'smartphone' P50 Pocket on sale in Spain this Wednesday for a price that will start at 1,599 euros.

HUAWEI MOBILE SERVICES

Huawei devices have not used Google services since 2019 due to the US ban on the Chinese brand, opting instead place by Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and P50 Pocket is no exception.

“We will continue building this ecosystem”, Fred Wang, country manager of Huawei CBG Spain, highlighted at the presentation event.

The Chinese brand wanted to highlight its commitment to the Spanish market despite the difficulties. "Spain is a very important market for Huawei in which we will continue to invest", Wang added.
