In the midst of the complex and changing digital age, Café Impresso was born, an opinion column by Jesús Hernández Cuéllar, director of ContactoMagazine.com. The first piece by him was published on September 27, 2007, when the print edition of Contacto still existed, which closed in December 2010.

Current debates on dictatorships, the so-called “21st century socialism”, corruption, poverty, political violence and terrorism, among other topics, have been part of Café Impresso since its foundation, with the purpose of to stimulate the analysis of these phenomena that have affected and affect many countries.

“Humanity seeks peace, fundamental freedoms, respect for human rights, political and business transparency, and this opinion column is nourished by these aspirations of modern society,” says Hernández Cuéllar.

One of the most visited pieces has been “Listen to you, Mr. Politico”, in which the author speaks directly to the leaders of the American continent about underdevelopment and misery that eats away at large segments of Latin American nations.

“Oil, tourist destinations, mines, livestock, agriculture and hard-working and enterprising human capital are just some of the qualities of this blessed region, in which 500 million people live, the vast majority with a language, a culture and a common story. However, approximately 186 million Latin Americans, or 30.7 percent of the population of Latin America, live below the poverty line, according to the Social Panorama of Latin America from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Of that total, 61 million people live in extreme poverty,” Hernández Cuéllar reminds the region's leaders of all political stripes.

Another widely read has been “Why Did 21st Century Socialism Fail in America?”, which analyzes the alternatives that Hugo Chávez had to undertake social policies, and why he chose the worst. “What Is Inside and Behind a Terrorist Mentality?” is based on studies by terrorism experts about the causes that lead many young people in the Middle East to join radical groups.

In the midst of the 2020 election campaign, many visits have also received “Rejection and Sympathy for Socialism in the United States”, as well as another titled “USA: Socialism vs. the Social Democracy”.

The F.B.I. has placed domestic extremism by supremacists and neo-Nazis among its top priorities, due to the rise in violent crimes motivated by racial hatred. This topic produced the column "The Neo-Nazi Renaissance in the United States", in which the author wonders: "if the superiority of the supremacists is real, why are none of their leaders linked to space exploration, to the development of the high technology or the advancement of the sciences? Why are none of the great scientists and technologists a member of at least one of their organizations?"

Hernández Cuéllar, author of the Cafe Impresso column, is director and editor of Contacto Magazine, a magazine he founded in July 1994 in Los Angeles, California.
